Narrative
The television series is set in the Dune universe and revolves around the lives of the Bene Gesserit. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women embody what science fiction is all about. Anderson. A prequel to the original Dune, it is the first installment in the Great Schools of Dune trilogy and tells how the Sisterhood of Rossak evolved into the Bene Gesserit.
So, here we go
Quoted in AniMat’s Crazy Cartoon Cast: The New Normal (2020). I wanted to keep this short and to the point, but felt compelled to expand on my thoughts. There was a time when writers knew how to weave exposition into the narrative without it feeling forced and contrived. I understand it’s the first episode, but do they have to spell everything out like it’s not common knowledge?
The rest of the characters didn’t interest me
Watson (Valya), Mark Strong (Kaiser), Travis Fimmel (Hart), and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (Princess) deliver good performances. I feel like the show is in good hands. They move the story forward but are forgettable. I guess we’ll see how it plays out.
They did a great job on the visual effects
I found it hard to focus on the first episode. It seemed like part of a whole that can’t be divided. I’ll wait for the whole season before watching more episodes. The CGI is high quality, the costumes are perfect, and the tone of Villeneuve’s vision is maintained and expanded upon.
