Pedro Almodovar’s latest achievement is unlikely to have seen a more vivid, beautiful and complex film about death. The set design, color choices and costumes make this an unsurpassed aesthetic pleasure to watch.
Should one have the freedom and autonomy to decide whether or not it’s time to end your life?
.my problem is that the film never found the depth it needed when dealing with such a serious and deep topic. Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore are doing their best to focus on this issue as they face a close friendship.
The final and most complex challenge of all
But the long dialogue felt wooden and too formulaic for my taste. While I was blown away by the visual richness of the film, it never quite moved me emotionally, something I’d expect from a great director like Almodóvar.
