Narrative
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes a living by executing hit movies for the highest pay. He soon meets his match in the ranks of a tough British intelligence officer who tracks him down on a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. "The Day of the Jackal" is a novel set in 1963 and revolves around the assassination attempt on then-French President Charles de Gaulle.
The show moves the setting to the present day
Credit Graham Norton and guests: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossom (2024). This would have been a great cat-and-mouse chase if the female lead had been anyone else, literally anyone else. The way she portrays the detective makes the viewer, at least for this one, not want to root for her.
She comes across as a polite, cold, know-it-all, selfish woman
Yes, she’s a cop and what she does is right, but how she does it is awful! I don’t like her and I don’t care for her. For that reason, I feel like a lot of us who watch the show will root for the Jackal.
And I know I’m not the only one
He’s everything he’s not, even though he’s a killer. I don’t want her to succeed in her mission, and I don’t want the Jackal to get caught. I don’t think it should be that way, but that’s how I feel.
She seems to be getting close to him
Unfortunately, if she succeeds, it will make you want to stop watching this show. And that’s a shame, because he’s amazing at that!
