Narrative
Maurice and Katya Kraft dedicated their lives to studying the world’s volcanoes. Their legacy consists of groundbreaking footage of eruptions and their aftermath, compiled into this stunning visual collage. Sabat MaterTrad. adapted by Ernst Reisseger. For me, there is something so hypnotic about Werner Herzog and his creations, that in all his films and documentaries there is something almost animalistic, yet so subtle, poetic. Werner’s films (or books) make me drop everything I am doing to listen to him, see him, and learn from him. I had no other experience of it tonight: such a human, gentle, and poetic, yet devastating film, where people and nature walk side by side with every step and history. Beautiful, touching, compassionate, yet artistic, never pitiful – everything you would expect from this wonderful director and creator. I highly recommend it.
