About the Role

We are looking for a Desktop Support Engineer with around 3 years of hands-on experience in desktop support, Linux administration, and networking. You will be the first point of contact for IT issues in our office and at client locations. Your job is to keep computers, servers, and the network running smoothly so that our teams and clients can work without interruption.

Reports to: IT Manager

Key Responsibilities

Desktop Support

  • Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, and software issues on Windows and Linux machines.
  • Set up new systems for joiners and handle system handover for employees who leave.
  • Install and update software, antivirus, and security patches.
  • Manage user accounts, email setup (Google Workspace / Microsoft 365), and password resets.
  • Provide remote support using tools such as AnyDesk or TeamViewer.

Linux Administration

  • Install and manage Linux servers and desktops (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL).
  • Manage users, groups, file permissions, and disk space.
  • Monitor services, check logs, and fix basic server issues.
  • Support the development team with server setup and basic deployment tasks.
  • Write simple shell scripts to automate routine tasks.
  • Take regular backups and test data restoration.

Networking

  • Configure and troubleshoot LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Handle IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, and VPN setup.
  • Monitor network performance and resolve connectivity or speed issues.
  • Coordinate with internet service providers and hardware vendors when needed.
  • Maintain structured cabling and network documentation.

General IT Operations

  • Log and track all issues through a ticketing system and close them within agreed timelines.
  • Maintain the IT asset inventory and software licence records.
  • Follow IT security policies and report any security incidents.
  • Prepare simple how-to guides for users.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduate or Diploma in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in desktop support, Linux, and networking.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows 10/11 and at least one Linux distribution.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, VPN, and firewall basics.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, file sharing, and printer management.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware troubleshooting and OS installation.
  • Good communication skills and a patient, helpful approach with users.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise multiple issues.

Preferred (Good to Have)

  • Certifications such as CCNA, RHCSA, CompTIA A+ / N+, or MCSA.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
  • Knowledge of CCTV, biometric systems, and EPABX.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios or Zabbix.
